Uemura Akari

Uemura Akari (植村あかり) is a Japanese pop singer under Hello! Project as a member and leader of Juice=Juice. She is also a former member of the SATOYAMA movement unit Sato no Akari. She was first introduced at the Hello Pro Kenshuusei Happyoukai 2012 ~3gatsu no Nama Tamago Show!~ as a member of Hello Pro Kenshuusei.

She is set to graduate from Juice=Juice and Hello! Project at the end of the group's upcoming spring concert tour in 2024.[1]

Early Life[]

Uemura Akari was born on December 30, 1998 in Osaka, Japan.

On April 18, 2011, Uemura and Miwa Satsuki joined Hello Pro Kansai as trainees.[2][3] They received six months of free training and had their final dance lesson on October 16, 2011.[4]

2012[]

On January 11, Uemura joined Hello Pro Kenshuusei, and her profile was added to the website on March 16 for the upcoming March show alongside Kosuga Fuyuka.[5] She later performed for the first time as a member on March 31 in the Hello Pro Kenshuusei Happyoukai 2012 ~3gatsu no Nama Tamago Show!~. She performed Go Girl ~Koi no Victory~, Chokkan 2 ~Nogashita Sakana wa Ookiizo!~, JUMP and Pyocopyoco Ultra.[6]

She then participated in the Morning Musume 11th Generation ~Suppin Utahime~ Audition alongside several other members of Hello Pro Kenshuusei, but failed.

2013[]

On February 3, during the Bravo! concert in Fukuoka, it was announced that she would be debuting in a new unit, Juice=Juice, alongside Miyamoto Karin, Kanazawa Tomoko, Miyazaki Yuka, Takagi Sayuki and Otsuka Aina.[7]

On February 12, Hello! Project Fanclub News announced that Uemura will be participating in a stageplay titled Moshimo Kokumin ga Shusho o Erandara along with Takahashi Ai, Ishikawa Rika, Wada Ayaka, Fukuda Kanon, and Miyamoto Karin. There will be 11 showings and it will run from April 24th through the 30th.

On March 31, Uemura fell ill with the flu and was unable to participate in the Hello Pro Kenshuusei Happyoukai 2013 ~3gatsu no Nama Tamago Show!~.

On July 20, Uemura appeared solo in Photo Technic Digital.

On December 17, Uemura and Miyamoto Karin had a birthday FC event called, Juice=Juice Miyamoto Karin, Uemura Akari Birthday Event 2013, at Tokyo FM Hall.

2014[]

On March 13, it was announced that Uemura would be a member of a newly formed SATOYAMA movement unit called Sato no Akari.

On December 11, Uemura and Miyamoto Karin had a birthday FC event called, Juice=Juice ~Miyamoto Karin & Uemura Akari Birthday Event 2014~, at Differ Ariake.

2015[]

On September 19, Uemura's first solo photobook was announced, titled AKARI. It was released on October 29.

On December 16, Uemura released her first solo image Blu-ray, Akari.

On December 28, Uemura celebrated her 17th birthday. The special event was called Juice=Juice Uemura Akari Birthday Event 2015, the event featured two performances at Yamano Hall.

2016[]

On July 25, Uemura released her second solo photobook, titled AKARI II.

On August 17, she released her second solo image Blu-ray, titled Take It Early.

On December 30, Uemura celebrated her 18th birthday at a special event titled Juice=Juice Uemura Akari Birthday Event 2016, which featured two performances at the Shinagawa Intercity Hall.

2017[]

On December 7, Uemura celebrated her 19th birthday at a fanclub event titled Juice=Juice Uemura Akari Birthday Event 2017, which featured two shows at CLUB CITTA'.

2018[]

On May 27, the Fami Hello! PHOTOBOOK was released, including Uemura's gravure that was originally published in an April 2015 issue of Weekly Famitsu.[8]

On August 16, the music video for Horiuchi Takao's August 22 single "Minna Shounen Datta" was uploaded on YouTube, featuring Uemura and six other Hello! Project members who all sing as chorus.[9]

On December 8, she celebrated her 20th birthday in a fanclub event titled Juice=Juice Uemura Akari Birthday Event 2018 at Yamano Hall.

2019[]

On January 9, she released her third solo photobook, titled AKARI III.[10]

On June 13, she opened an official Instagram account.[11][12]

On September 30, it was announced that Uemura would become a regular on the MBS Radio show Akina no Shuukan Young Friday starting from October 4.[13]

On December 19, she celebrated her 21st birthday at a fanclub event titled Juice=Juice Uemura Akari Birthday Event 2019, featuring two shows at Yamano Hall.

2020[]

On January 24, Uemura held a second fanclub event to celebrate her 21st birthday in Hokkaido, titled Juice=Juice Uemura Akari Birthday Event in Osaka, which features two shows at YES THEATER.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the annual Hello! Project summer concert had the member split in three teams and featured them performing solo covers of famous J-Pop ballads by artists outside of Hello! Project. Uemura was placed in Team C and performed “Eki” by Takeuchi Maria and “Aitai” by Sawada Chikako. On December 19th, a recorded version of Aitai was uploaded to the Juice=Juice YouTube Channel. [14]

On December 21, she celebrated her 22nd birthday at a fanclub event titled Juice=Juice Uemura Akari Birthday Event 2020, featuring two shows at LANDMARK HALL.

2021[]

In 2021, no individual group concerts were held. Instead, members appeared in Hello! Project joint concerts, divided into teams. Uemura was placed in Unit 6 for the Hello! Project 2021 Winter ~STEP BY STEP~, Team Tori for the Hello! Project 2021 Haru "Kachou Fuugetsu" (as the only Juice=Juice member) and Hello! Project 2021 Aki "Zoku Kachou Fuugetsu" tour, as well as Team Sapphire for the Hello! Project 2021 Summer Sapphire & Ruby concerts.

On July 28, it was announced that Uemura, along with Kawamura Ayano and Ogata Risa, would be featured in Matsubara Takeshi's new single, "Kaze no Bouquet". The single is expected was released on September 29th.[15]

On October 11th, Uemura first appeared on Nishinokaze Brand (西乃風ブラン堂), a regional creation variety show TV program that covers "new brands" in western Japan, alongside Kawamura Ayano.

On November 24, Uemura was announced Juice=Juice's new leader at the Juice=Juice Concert 2021 ~FAMILIA~ Kanazawa Tomoko Final following Kanazawa Tomoko's graduation.

On December 16, she celebrated her 23rd birthday at a fanclub event titled Juice=Juice Uemura Akari Birthday Event 2021, featuring two shows at Sunpearl Arakawa.

2022[]

Following their formula from the previous year, members were divided into two teams for the Hello! Project 2022 Winter ~LOVE & PEACE~ tour. Uemura was placed in Team PEACE.

On January 12th, Uemura and Dambara held a Fanclub Event, Juice=Juice Uemura Akari×Dambara Ruru FC Event 2022 ~RuruAarii~.

In March, Uemura appeared on the TV program Machicomi (マチコミ) with Kudo Yume, where they went to Kagoshima prefecture.[16]

On April 20, Juice=Juice released their third studio album, terzo, the first release under her leadership.

Uemura appeared on WHO WORE BEST[17] in September and in the Dezember issue of steady. Magazine.

Juice=Juice‘s 16th Single, “Zenbu Kakete GO!! / Eeny Meeny Miny Moe ~Koi no Rival Sengen~”, the first under her leadership, was released on November 23rd.

On November 28th, it was reported that Uemura was diagnosed with COVID-19. She reported a throat discomfort and a fever on November 26th and took a PCR test which was confirmed to be positive. Due to several members being diagnosed with COVID-19 at the same time, the autumn tour final Juice=Juice CONCERT TOUR ~final: nouvelle vague~, to be held on November 29th at Nippon Budokan, was cancelled.[18]

2023[]

On January 18 and 23, she celebrated her 24th birthday at a fanclub event titled Juice=Juice Uemura Akari Birthday Event 2022～2023 Ake Chaimashita Omedetou!, featuring two shows at Sunpearl Arakawa in Tokyo and YES THEATER in Osaka.

On August 16, it was announced that Uemura will be graduating from Juice=Juice and Hello! Project at the end of the group's upcoming spring concert tour in 2024.[1]

2024[]

On January 23 and 26, she celebrated her 25th birthday at a fanclub event titled Juice=Juice Uemura Akari Birthday Event 2024 ~Uemu Land e Yokoso!~, featuring two shows at Tower Hall Funabori in Tokyo and YES THEATER in Osaka.

On May 23, she will release her graduation photobook, Strelitzia.

Personal Life[]

She was raised as an only child. When her father had her, he was 18 years old.

Uemura had two pet birds. “Happy” lived 9 years in her care but died in May 2022.[19]

She previously owned another bird named Toppy, but it escaped and flew away.

When Uemura debuted as a member of Juice=Juice in February 2013, she was a second year middle school student. She graduated from high school on March 8, 2017.[20]

Uemura gets along best with Miyazaki Yuka, Murota Mizuki and Kanazawa Tomoko. Close friends include Dambara Ruru, Akiyama Mao and Haga Akane.

She gets along well with Kudo Yume, Inaba Manaka and Ebata Kisaki.

Uemura's given name, Akari, means "light" (あかり) as her parents wanted her to walk along a bright path.[21]
