UP-FRONT esports club (sometimes spelled as e-sports with a hyphen)[1] is an eSports club for UP-FRONT GROUP talent that was formed in December 2017 and made its competitive debut in January 2018.[2]

On December 20, 2017, the club was initially announced under the name "UP-FRONT Team" with former Morning Musume member Yaguchi Mari, Up Up Girls (Kari) members Furukawa Konatsu and Arai Manami, and LoVendoЯ guitarist Miyazawa Marin as the four founding members.[2]

The UP-FRONT esports club made its competitive debut on January 8, 2018 at the Dai Ichi Kai eSports Star Battle Championship,[3][4] which was streamed live on the official eSports Star League Twitch channel.[5]

On July 27, 2018, Morning Musume '18 member Yokoyama Reina and Up Up Girls (2) member Kajishima Aya joined the club.[6]

On August 6, 2018, the club competed in the Dai Ni Kai eSports Star Battle Championship, which was held on the Special Stage of the TV Asahi・Roppongi Hills Natsu Matsuri SUMMER STATION and streamed live on AbemaTV's Ultra Games Channel.[7][8]

On June 28, 2019, it was announced that Miyazawa Marin will leave UP-FRONT CREATE and subsequently the UP-FRONT esports club at the end of July following the expiration of her exclusive management contract with the agency.[9]

Trivia

  • Yaguchi Mari said that she loves gaming, but admits that she is not good at it.[3]
  • Up Up Girls (Kari) created a YouTube gaming channel named Up Up Girls (YouTuber) in September 2017,[10] which Arai Manami is the most frequent member on the channel followed by Sekine Azusa and Kajishima Aya.
  • Miyazawa Marin is a fan of Pokémon, Monster Hunter, Dynasty Warriors, and Samurai Warriors games.[11][12]
  • Yaguchi Mari has attended the Tokyo Game Shows in 2016 and 2017 as an official supporter of the Japan eSports League and eSports Communications.[13][14] Up Up Girls (Kari) attended in 2017, where they played mobile games on the Exvision. Stage.[15]
  • Kajishima Aya live streams on her SHOWROOM channel while she plays video games such as Mario Kart and Splatoon 2.[16][17]
