Takeuchi Akari (竹内朱莉) is a Japanese pop singer and dancer. She is a former idol under Hello! Project as a 2nd generation member and leader of ANGERME. She first joined Hello! Project in 2008 as a member Hello Pro Egg. She was also a member of Shin Minimoni and the SATOYAMA movement unit Harvest.

She graduated from ANGERME and Hello! Project on June 21, 2023 in order to focus on her new passion in calligraphy.[1]

As of July 2023, she is part of the M-line club.

Early Life[]

Takeuchi Akari was born on November 23, 1997 in Saitama, Japan.

2008[]

Takeuchi Akari joined Hello! Project as a member of Hello Pro Egg in 2008. She was first introduced at the 2008 Hello! Project Shinjin Kouen 6gatsu ~Akasaka Hop!~ concert in June 2008 alongside Fukumura Mizuki and Kaneko Rie.

2009[]

In June 2009, Takeuchi took park in the stage play Ojigi de SHAPE-UP!, the sequel to Ojigi 30 do Degrees, with fellow Hello! Project members Miyamoto Karin, Takahashi Ai, Michishige Sayumi, Tanaka Reina, and Kamei Eri.

In 2009, Takeuchi became a member of the revival group, Shin Minimoni alongside Linlin, Fukuda Kanon, and Miyamoto Karin.

2010[]

In late 2010, Takeuchi auditioned for Morning Musume 9th Generation Audition, but failed to pass the 3rd round.

2011[]

She auditioned for S/mileage and made it in as sub-members along with Nakanishi Kana, Tamura Meimi, Kosuga Fuyuka, and fellow Hello Pro Egg member Katsuta Rina.

On October 16th, the second generation sub-members of S/mileage were announced as official members. Following the announcement, Takeuchi, along with Katsuta, withdrew from Hello Pro Egg.

2012[]

On May 13, information was released about an event for the 9th and 10th generation members of Morning Musume as well as S/mileage’s 2nd generation members, titled Mosuma FC Event ~Gachi☆Kira~, was set to take place on June 15th, 18th, 20th, and 28th at Yokohama Blitz.

On October 10, it was announced that Takeuchi would be a member of the new unit Harvest alongside Morning Musume members Ikuta Erina, Ishida Ayumi, and Sato Masaki.

2013[]

Starting in April, Takeuchi became a regular on the NHK's educational television program Test no Hanamichi.

On April 14, S/mileage's 2nd generation held a fanclub event.

On May 26, it was announced that Takeuchi would take part of a new project called "Yattaruchan Daisakusen", which she supported Nakanishi Kana's mission to become "Super Yattaruchan". The project began in August. On the same day, Takeuchi's Twitter account was officially opened.

On November 25, she celebrated her birthday at a special event called S/mileage Takeuchi Akari Birthday Event 2013 with two performances.

2014[]

On March 2, Takeuchi Akari and then Nakanishi Kana Tweeted that their Twitter accounts would become inactive, but they would start to update their blog more often. Takeuchi's second-to-last tweet stated: "We were doing Twitter as part of Operation Yattaruchan to become Yattaruchan, so maybe this means Akari is Yattaruchan now-!!!!! lol I'll update my blog more often from now on!! lol Thank you for now!!"[2]

On November 23, Takeuchi celebrated her 17th birthday. She had a special birthday event, titled S/mileage ~Takeuchi Akari Birthday Event 2014~, the event featured two performances in Tokyo.

2015[]

On November 24, it was announced that Takeuchi Akari would take over Fukuda Kanon's Tuesday regular position on the radio show 60TRYbu.[3]

On November 29, during Fukuda's gradation concert at the end of the ANGERME First Concert Tour 2015 Aki "Hyakka Ryouran", it was announced that she was appointed sub-leader alongside Nakanishi Kana.

2016[]

On January 25, Takeuchi celebrated her 18th birthday at a special event titled ANGERME Takeuchi Akari Birthday Event ~Shinnenkai ja nai yo! Birthday Event da yo! Minna de Akari wo Iwaundaa!!!~, featuring two performances in Tokyo.

On November 24, Takeuchi celebrated her 19th birthday at a special event titled ANGERME Takeuchi Akari Birthday Event 2016, featuring two performances in Tokyo.

2017[]

On February 17, Takeuchi held a talk event with Kamikokuryo Moe at the Hello! Project Official Shop in Osaka.[4]

On November 22, Takeuchi celebrated her 20th birthday at a fanclub event titled ANGERME Takeuchi Akari Birthday Event 2017, which featured two shows at Square Ebara Hiratsuka Hall.

2018[]

On August 27, Takeuchi was appointed as a migration PR ambassador for Shikokuchuo, Ehime Prefecture alongside Up Up Girls (Kakko Kari) member Mori Saki.[5]

On September 23, Takeuchi was appointed with eight other OG and active Hello! Project members from Saitama Prefecture as Host City Special Supporters for Kumagaya during the Rugby World Cup 2019 hosted by Japan.[6][7]

On December 12, she celebrated her 21st birthday at a fanclub event titled ANGERME Takeuchi Akari Birthday Event 2018, featuring two shows at Square Ebara Hiratsuka Hall.

2019[]

On May 25, during the night concert of the ANGERME Concert Tour 2019 Haru ~Rinnetenshou~ in Chiba, it was announced that Takeuchi would become the group's new leader following Wada Ayaka's graduation on June 18.[8][9]

On July 25, she and Morning Musume '19 member Fukumura Mizuki held a joint fanclub event titled Morning Musume '19 Fukumura Mizuki・ANGERME Takeuchi Akari FC Event, featuring two shows at NEW PIER HALL.

On October 5, the Hello Tsu PHOTOBOOK① was released, including Takeuchi's gravure that was originally published in a December 2018 issue of Weekly Famitsu.[10]

On November 25, she celebrated her 22nd birthday at a fanclub event titled ANGERME Takeuchi Akari Birthday Event 2019, featuring two shows at NEW PIER HALL.

2020[]

On May 14, she opened up an official Instagram account.[11]

On November 26, she celebrated her 23rd birthday at a fanclub event titled ANGERME Takeuchi Akari Birthday Event 2020, featuring two shows at LANDMARK HALL.[12] In compliance with government policy, cheering, crowding, standing, and closeness in the venue were prohibited, and wearing masks were required to enter.

2021[]

On October 29th, she became the longest serving member of ANGERME, surpassing Wada Ayaka's tenure.

On November 25, she celebrated her 24th birthday at a fanclub event titled ANGERME Takeuchi Akari Birthday Event 2021, featuring two shows at Sunpearl Arakawa.[13] In compliance with government policy, cheering, crowding, standing, and closeness in the venue were prohibited, and wearing masks were required to enter.

2022[]

On June 23, she and Morning Musume '22 member Fukumura Mizuki held a joint fanclub event titled Morning Musume '22 Fukumura Mizuki & ANGERME Takeuchi Akari FC Event Fukutake 14 Shuunen! ~H!P EGG We are No.1!~, featuring two shows at Kawaguchi Lilia Main Hall.

On July 24, it was announced that Takeuchi would be absent from the Hello! Project 2022 Summer CITY CIRCUIT ANGERME CONCERT TOUR ~The ANGERME Encore~ concert in Osaka held in the same day as she was not feeling well since July 23 and the symptoms has not improved prior to the concert.[14] A day later, on July 25, it was announced that she was diagnosed with COVID-19. The staff noticed that there was something wrong with her throat since the last weekend prior to the diagnosis, but in the morning on July 25 she had symptoms of fever and sore throat, and after doing an antigen test a positive reaction for COVID-19 was confirmed. She will be resting at home for the time being and concentrate on treatment under the direction of health centers and medical institutions. Other than Takeuchi, no symptoms of fever or other symptoms were confirmed for the ANGERME members. Due to this, she will be absent from the Shiritsu Ebisu Chugaku Major Debut 10th Anniversary 2MAN Zepp TOUR "Houkago Rock'n'Roll" live on July 26, where ANGERME will be making a special appearance.[15]

On November 15, she celebrated her 25th birthday at a fanclub event titled ANGERME Takeuchi Akari Birthday Event 2022, featuring two shows at Katsushika Symphony Hills.

On December 20, it was announced that Takeuchi Akari would graduate from ANGERME and Hello! Project at the end of their 2023 Spring Tour. Takeuchi had recently obtained the 5th Dan "Seisho Shihan" in calligraphy, and while she is still active, she aims to become a 5th Dan "Professor" so she can be able to teach calligraphy to everyone. This announcement also reveals she is planning a solo exhibition for her calligraphy around the same time next spring.[16]

2023[]

On April 14, Takeuchi announced through a press conference of her first calligraphy exhibition that her graduation date would be on June 21 with ANGERME's first arena concert at Yokohama Arena. She also announced that the group's 32nd single, scheduled to be released on June 14, would be her last.[17][18]

From April 15 to April 23, Takeuchi held her first solo calligraphy exhibition titled Koukou Buyou (煌々舞踊) at the Meiji Jingu Gaien Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery.[19]

On May 25, Takeuchi released her first and only solo photobook during her time in Hello! Project, roundabout.[20]

On June 21, she officially graduated from ANGERME and Hello! Project at the ANGERME CONCERT 2023 BIG LOVE Takeuchi Akari FINAL LIVE "ANGERME Yori Ai wo Komete" in Yokohama Arena. The day after, on June 22, she was transferred from UP-FRONT PROMOTION to J.P ROOM.

On July 1, she opened a new Twitter account.[21]

On July 13, she released a book titled Jinsei Sumi Mamire, which is a compilation of her calligraphy work through S Cawaii across 17 issues from March 17, 2021 until June 16, 2023.[22]

On July 14, it was announced that she had joined the M-line club. [23] She also announced that her calligraphy exhibition Koukou Buyou (煌々舞踊) would be coming to Osaka in August.[24]

On August 20, Takeuchi reported that she had reached the 5th Dan "Professor" level in calligraphy and obtained her teaching certification.[25]

Personal Life[]

Takeuchi has an older brother and a pet dog named Melon.

Takeuchi is maternal first cousins with ℃-ute's leader, Yajima Maimi.[26] She has explained in the past that the reason why she decided to join Hello Pro Egg was because she admired her cousin Yajima and ℃-ute.

Her grandfather owns an electronics shop.[27]

When Takeuchi was first introduced as a Hello Pro Egg member in June 2008, she was a third year elementary school student. At the time when Takeuchi auditioned for S/mileage, she was a second year middle school student. During her time in middle school, she was in a sports team. On March 15, 2013, Takeuchi graduated from middle school.[28]

On March 13, 2016, Takeuchi announced that she had graduated from high school and would start university.[29]

Takeuchi most notably gets along with Katsuta Rina, Fukumura Mizuki[27] and Makino Maria.[30]

Takeuchi's given name, "Akari", was thought of by her grandfather, who owned an electronics shop and wanted to pick a name related to electricity. He came up with Akari, Hikari, and Hikaru; all of them meaning "light", "illumination", or "glow". Since Takeuchi's mother wanted a cute name, she choose Akari out of the three.[27]

  • Take-chan (タケちゃん): Official nickname, given her since joining Hello Pro Egg. Used by members and fans.[27]
  • Oden-kun (おでんくん): Given to her due to having a similar facial feature to the cartoon character "Oden-kun". Afterwards, the S/mileage Members, the fans, even Tsunku has ofter call her by the nickname.

    • In Fukuda Kanon's final interview before her graduation, she had this to say about Takeuchi: "She was good at singing and dancing from the start, but she also discards some aspects of the idol attitude in a good sense, and is always reliable. She’s loved by everyone so she also gets teased a lot by everyone, and even when she’s not around, just the mention of her name can make everyone smile."[31]
    • If she could be born as a someone else, she would be Kumai Yurina because she's tall and would never get buried on a crowded train.[27]
    • She believes she is the best Hello! Project member at calligraphy. As of November 2017, she is currently 2-dan in the adult ranking, and is certified to teach calligraphy at the high school level.[27] She passed the 3-dan in January 2020. As of August 10, 2020, she passed the 4-dan, and is now qualified to teach calligraphy to adults.[32]
    • If she did not become idol, she would like to play around as much as she wants such as going to karaoke until late at night, and also go traveling.[27]
    • Coincidentally, 朱莉 is also a common Chinese transcription of the name "Julie".
    • She is the last remaining member to have released a single under the name S/mileage before the group's name change. (Sasaki Rikako was a member of S/mileage but her debut single was in January 2015 when they became ANGERME).
    • She is the first member of ANGERME to remain in the group for 11 years.
    • On June 21, 2023, same day of her graduation from ANGERME and Hello! Project, she became the longest serving Hello! Project member of ANGERME, surpassing Wada Ayaka by one day.
