Suzuki Airi (鈴木愛理) is a Japanese pop singer and model. She is a former idol under Hello! Project as a member of ℃-ute. She first joined as a Hello! Project Kids member in 2002 through the audition and was placed in ℃-ute in 2005. Suzuki was also a member of the Hello! Project group Buono! and the SATOUMI movement unit Dia Lady. After ℃-ute disbanded in June 2017, Suzuki made her solo debut in spring 2018.[1]
Biography
Early Life
Suzuki Airi was born on April 12, 1994 in Gifu, Japan to professional golfers Suzuki Toru and Kyoko, and was raised in Chiba Prefecture.
At age 6, Suzuki began attending UP-FRONT Music School, and was a student until she joined Hello! Project Kids at age 8.[2]
2002
On June 30, Suzuki Airi participated in the Hello! Project auditions to find singers to form Hello! Project Kids.[3] Along with 14 other girls, Suzuki passed the audition after she performed "Kimochi wa Tsutawaru" by BoA.[4] She made her first appearance in the entertainment industry as a member of 4KIDS, a temporary group that appeared in Minimoni's movie Minimoni the Movie Okashi na Daibouken!.
2003
Suzuki was chosen as a member of a new Hello! Project unit named Aa! alongside Morning Musume member Tanaka Reina and fellow Hello! Project Kids member Natsuyaki Miyabi.[5] The group released their first and only single, "FIRST KISS", in October of the same year.[3][5][6][7] The group later disbanded, but occasionally reunited to perform live, though Tanaka was no longer a member of the unit.
2004
Late in the year, Suzuki took part in her first Hello! Project shuffle unit, H.P. All Stars, taking part alongside all the members of Hello! Project at the time. The shuffle unit released one single and became inactive by January 2005.
2005
Suzuki Airi was assigned as a member of Hello! Project group ℃-ute alongside seven other Hello! Project Kids members.[8] These seven members had been passed over when it came to the forming of Berryz Koubou, which had originally been formed to teach the Hello! Project Kids about being in a group by rotating the line-up amongst the kids. ℃-ute started off releasing singles on an indie label, but made their major debut in 2007.
2006
℃-ute released four indie singles in preparation for their major debut in 2007. They also released their first album, Cutie Queen Vol. 1.
2007
On February 21, ℃-ute released their major debut single, "Sakura Chirari". On the first day in the charts it ranked third on the Oricon charts, a feat not even accomplished by Hello! Project's mother group Morning Musume (who had ranked 6th on their debut single). With their debut single, they became the youngest group (with the average age of 13) to rank in the top 10. They released three singles that year, with Suzuki being the lead vocalist and center focus for all three releases.
On April 23, Suzuki Airi joined the Gatas Brillhantes H.P. futsal team.
It was on July 21, that Suzuki would participate in a new unit named Buono! with Tsugunaga Momoko and Natsuyaki Miyabi from Berryz Koubou.[9]
On December 30, ℃-ute was chosen for the Best New Artist Award with Japan Record Award.
2009
Suzuki, along with four other members of ℃-ute and Berryz Koubou, left the Hello! Project futsal team, Gatas Brilhantes H.P.. The members left of their own violition due to feeling that they could not perform as high level players due to their level of ability.
On March 13, Suzuki appeared solo in a Pizza-La commercial. This was her first time ever appearing on a Pizza-La commercial without the other Buono! members.
On July 17th, Suzuki appeared in her second solo Pizza-La commercial. Her commercial was a Suzuki Airi version of Buono!'s commercial for Pizza-La's French Camembert Cheese.
In July, it was revealed that Aa! would be revived and it would include two original members—Suzuki Airi and Natsuyaki Miyabi—and Saho Akari, a Hello Pro Egg.
2010
From October 13 to 22, Suzuki starred in Akuma no Tsubuyaki with the other members of ℃-ute
At the end of October, Suzuki appeared on the cover of the December issue of UP to boy magazine, together with Watanabe Mayu from AKB48. That was the first gravure collaboration between AKB48 and Hello! Project.[10]
Suzuki starred in the horror film Keitai Kanojo. Keitai Kanojo was a movie based on the popular mobile phone novel of the same name. It was a sequel to Keitai Kareshi, and Suzuki played a high school student investigating the mystery behind a mobile phone dating simulation game in the movie.
2011
Suzuki and Tanaka Reina starred in the horror film Vampire Stories.
Suzuki, along with the other members of the Hello! Project Kids, starred in the horror film Ousama Game as the character Iwamura Ria, one of the main characters in the film.
Suzuki, along with the other members of Buono!, starred in the horror film Gomennasai as Hidaka Yuka, one of the main characters.
2012
On April 18, it was announced that Suzuki Airi, Mano Erina, Yajima Maimi and Okai Chisato would star in a new stage play titled Theatre in the Round. The stage play ran from May 15-17.
Suzuki starred in the Nippon TV drama Piece. The first episode aired on October 6.
On Novemeber 18, Suzuki appeared in her third solo Pizza-La commercial.
On December 8, Suzuki appeared in a Pizza-La commercial with Sekine Mari.
2013
Suzuki and Wada Ayaka were featured in a special gravure mook titled Graduation -Koukou Sotsugyou- in honor of their high school graduations.[11] It was released on February 27.
On March 2, it was announced at Forest For Rest ~SATOYAMA e Ikou~ SATOYAMA movement in YOKOHAMA that Suzuki and Sugaya Risako would form a new unit called Dia Lady.
On April 5, Suzuki made her mangaka (manga artist) debut. Her manga, titled Suu-san, was a one-frame manga which included hand-drawn and written characters. Suzuki's work was posted on Shueisha's Aoharu site.
On April 12, Suzuki held her birthday event, titled Suzuki Airi Birthday Kikaku ~19 no Utagoe~.
On May 20, Suzuki released a collaboration book with Bea's Up magazine's hair and make-up stylist, Eita, titled Eita × Suzuki Airi Eita Produce Magic Make-up. Bea's Up is a women's beauty magazine listing make-up tips for daily life. Suzuki appeared in the book as Eita's model.
On November 16, Suzuki appeared solo in a Pizza-La commercial. This was her fourth solo appearance in a Pizza-La commercial.
2014
On April 14, Suzuki celebrated her 20th birthday at a fanclub event called ℃-ute Suzuki Airi Birthday Event 2014, which featured a single show at Differ Ariake.
On October 7, Suzuki announced that starting in 2015, she would be the new image character for Suzunoya, a famous kimono store chain which is featured in JUNON magazine.[12]
2015
On April 12, Suzuki celebrated her 21st birthday at a fanclub event called ℃-ute Suzuki Airi Birthday Event 2015, which featured two shows at Differ Ariake.
On April 21, Suzuki announced on her blog that she would become an exclusive model for the fashion magazine Ray, in which she has made recent appearances as a beauty page model. Starting from the June issue, released on April 23, Suzuki would also be featured in the fashion pages as an exclusive model.[13]
On October 19, Suzunoya announced due to great reception, Suzuki would continue as their image character for a second year.[14]
2016
On April 12, Suzuki celebrated her 22nd birthday at a fanclub event titled ℃-ute Suzuki Airi Birthday Event 2016, featuring two shows at Zepp Tokyo.
On June 17, Suzuki announced that she would be hosting her own radio show for the TS ONE smartphone radio app.[15] The show, titled Airi's Potion, began its broadcast on July 6.
On August 20, it was announced that ℃-ute would disband next June at Saitama Super Arena.[16][17]
2017
On March 24, Suzuki was appointed the new 2017 image character for Chiba Bank and would be featured in the bank's commercials and posters from April 1.[18][19]
On March 31, Suzuki released her last solo photobook as an idol titled Eien.
On April 24, Suzuki celebrated her 23rd birthday at a fanclub event titled ℃-ute Suzuki Airi Birthday Event 2017, featuring two performances at Differ Ariake.
Suzuki released a style book titled Airi Mania on May 23. She was also had her first solo cover for the Ray July 2017 issue, which was released on the same day.[20]
On May 27, Suzuki announced that she has decided to continue singing after ℃-ute disbands and would begin solo activities in the next spring.[1]
She joined M-line club on July 10.[21]
On August 14, it was announced that Suzuki would portray singer Okumura Chiyo in the second episode of NHK's Saturday drama Ueki Hitoshi to Nobosemon on September 9.[22][23]
On December 31, Suzuki made a surprise appearance at the Hello! Project 20th Anniversary!! Hello! Project COUNTDOWN PARTY 2017 ~GOOD BYE & HELLO!~ concert.[24] During the first part of the concert, she performed with Kobushi Factory, Tsubaki Factory, and Shimizu Saki. In the second, she performed an unreleased solo song titled "Mikansei Girl"[25] and also announced that she was currently recording her first solo album.
2018
On January 1, an official website and Twitter account for Suzuki were created.[26][27] She was also transferred to UP-FRONT CREATE.
On March 23, Suzuki became a poster girl for the Chiba Prefecture Red Cross Blood Center.[28]
In the spring, she held the first two parts of her first solo live: the Suzuki Airi 1st LIVE ~Do me a favor @ COTTON CLUB~ from March 26 to April 29, the Suzuki Airi 1st LIVE ~Do me a favor @ Zepp Tokyo / Namba Hatch~ from April 9 to April 16.
On May 19, she appeared as a Ray model in the Rakuten GirlsAward 2018 SPRING/SUMMER at Makuhari Messe.[29]
On May 24, Suzuki sang the national anthem for the opening of the Rakuten Eagles and Orix Buffaloes game at Tokyo Dome.[30][31]
From May 25 to June 10, she opened a pop-up café at AREA-Q in Harajuku, Tokyo named "AIRI SUZUKI presents #DMAF CAFÉ supported by Ray" to celebrate her major debut and the 30th anniversary of Ray magazine.[32]
On June 6, Suzuki released her solo debut album Do me a favor. To commemorate its release, she held the AIRI SUZUKI acoustic live #DMAF on June 17, June 24, and July 21 in three different cities, which was exclusive to fans who won tickets by entering a lottery when they purchased the album from forTUNE music.[33][34]
On June 27, Suzuki performed in her first major primetime TV music festival, the TV Tokyo Music Festival 2018.[35]
On July 1, Suzuki announced that she would continue to appear as the image character of Chiba Bank for another year, and her album track "start again" would be used as a commercial song.[36][37]
On July 7, she began broadcasting a radio show on RKB Radio, titled Suzuki Airi Airi Mania Radio.[38]
On July 9, she held the last part of her first solo live, the Suzuki Airi 1st LIVE ~Do me a favor @ Nippon Budokan~,[39] which was a mix of the COTTON CLUB and live house performances.
On August 3, she performed in the Sony Music Records×TBS Presents "Voice JAM".[40] She also performed the next day on August 4 at rockin'on presents ROCK IN JAPAN FES.2018 on the Hillside Stage.[41][42]
On August 11, Suzuki held the Suzuki Airi FC Event Dai 1kai Airi Mania Kai ~Budokan Otsukare / A Sou Ieba 24sai Omedetou~ to celebrate her 24th birthday and the completion of her first solo Nippon Budokan concert.
On August 26, Suzuki and Up Up Girls (2) member Kajishima Aya formed a PR unit named All Chiba Hospitality Corps in a ceremony for the "All Chiba Hospitality Action!" campaign.[43][44]
On August 29, she appeared as a model in the KANSAI COLLECTION 2018A/W at Kyocera Dome Osaka.[45] Then she also appeared as a main model in the Tokyo Girls Collection 2018 AUTUMN/WINTER at Saitama Super Arena on September 1,[46] and as both a model and a performer in the Rakuten GirlsAward 2018 AUTUMN/WINTER at Makuhari Messe on September 16.[47]
In addition to Suzuki's "Motto, Airi Mania" series which began in the September 2018 issue of Ray magazine,[48] she began a Ray web original article series on September 12 titled "Motto, Motto♡Airi Mania".[49][50]
On September 30, Suzuki performed in the BOMBER-E Aki Matsuri Special LIVE(DAY2), which was held as part of the Me~tele Aki Matsuri 2018 at Hisaya Odori Park.[51]
On November 1, she performed a two-man live with the rock band Akasick for the uP!!! SPECIAL Live natalie 201811 at Toyosu PIT.[52] For the live's Halloween costume theme, Suzuki dressed a Sailor Moon.[53][54]
From November 3 to December 17, she held the Suzuki Airi LIVE TOUR 2018 "PARALLEL DATE".
On November 16, she appeared as a guest at the Kokugakuin Daigaku Miss & Mister Contest.[55]
On New Year's Eve, she performed at rockin'on presents COUNTDOWN JAPAN 18/19 at Makuhari Messe.[56]
2019
In early 2019, Suzuki participated in 25th anniversary projects for the fashion brand Samantha Thavasa. She first appeared as a model in the Samantha Thavasa 25 Shuunen Kick-Off Pre-Happyoukai on February 5, where it was also announced that she would produce a Samantha Thavasa×Ray Suzuki Airi collaboration bag.[57][58] Later, she was revealed as one of the singers in the 25th anniversary charity song "ONE-we are one-", which was released for digital download on March 1.[59][60]
On March 17, Suzuki appeared as a model in the KANSAI COLLECTION 2019S/S at Kyocera Dome.[61] She also appeared at Tokyo Girls Collection 2019 SPRING/SUMMER on March 30.[62]
She celebrated her 25th birthday in a fanclub event titled Suzuki Airi Birthday Event 2019 Dai 2kai Airi Mania Kai which had two shows on April 12 at Zepp DiverCity and two shows on April 21 at Zepp Namba.
On May 5, she was invited to throw the ceremonial first pitch at the Chiba Lotte Mariners home game against the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters.[63][64][65]
On May 18, Suzuki appeared in the Rakuten GirlsAward 2019 SPRING/SUMMER at Makuhari Messe as a model and guest performer.[66][67]
On June 6, it was announced that Suzuki was cast as the character Yoshimura Mizuki in the drama I TURN, which would begin airing on July 12 in TV Tokyo's Drama24 timeslot.[68][69][70]
On June 24, the final products for the Samantha Thavasa PetitChoice / Samantha Vega / SAMANTHA SILVA×Ray×Suzuki Airi collaboration were unveiled and went on sale in Samantha Thavasa stores and online.[71][72] The collection includes bags, purses, and jewelry designed by Suzuki.[73][74]
Suzuki performed in the TV Tokyo Ongakusai 2019 on June 26,[75][76] and she also appeared in TBS's Ongaku no Hi 2019 on July 13.[77][78]
From July 1, Suzuki began co-hosting the TV Tokyo travel documentary program Tokyo GOOD! alongside talent Sugiura Taiyo, who is the husband of Morning Musume OG member Tsuji Nozomi.[79]
On July 28, she performed in the TBC TV 60 Shuunen Kinen Shinsai Fukkoushien Event TBC Natsu Matsuri 2019 Kizuna Miyagi ~Re:NEW~ on the Sendai WEST Stage.[80][81]
On July 30, Suzuki was a guest on Yaguchi Mari's AbemaTV show Yaguchi Mari no Kayou The NIGHT, where it was announced that she would fill in as the host while Yaguchi was gone on maternity leave.[82][83] From August 6 to October 8, the show was temporarily named Suzuki Airi no Kayou The NIGHT.[84][85]
On August 12, Suzuki performed at rockin'on presents ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL 2019 on the BUZZ STAGE.[86][87]
On August 23, she released a Samantha Vega×Suzuki Airi collaboration bag collection.[88]
On August 27, she appeared as a model in the KANSAI COLLECTION 2019 AUTUMN & WINTER held at Kyocera Dome Osaka.[89]
From August 28 to September 17, the "Airi-chan to no Deai" (Meeting with Airi-chan) collaboration event will be held in the Little Twin Stars mobile game Kiki & Lala no Twinkle Puzzle, which includes a voiced avatar of Suzuki as a reward.[90]
On September 4, Suzuki released her debut single, titled "Escape".[91][92][93] A collaboration with the gelato café ViTO to promote "Escape" will be held from the single's release day until September 19 at 12 locations.[94]
On September 7, she was model in the Mynavi Presents Dai 29kai TOKYO GIRLS COLLECTION 2019 AUTUMN/WINTER show.[95]
On September 14 and 15, she held her first solo bus tour, the Suzuki Airi Fanclub Tour in Nagano.

On October 20, Suzuki appeared as a guest in Nakajima Takui's 20th debut anniversary live, the TAKUI NAKAJIMA SPECIAL LIVE 2019 20TH ANNIVERSARY LIVE featuring ROCK'N'ROLL SPECIAL!, at Mynavi BLITZ Akasaka.[102] The two of them performed "Tsugi no Kado wo Magare" and "Lady Mermaid" as a duet.
On November 2, she published the Suzuki Airi 2020nen Calendar, her first solo calendar.[103]
On December 18, she released her second album i, which includes the collaborative song "Break it down" with the rock band Official HIGE DANdism.[104][105]
On December 29, she performed rockin'on presents COUNTDOWN JAPAN 19/20 at Makuhari Messe.[106]
On December 31, Suzuki was a special guest in the second part of the Hello! Project COUNTDOWN PARTY 2019 ~GOOD BYE & HELLO!~ at Nakano Sun Plaza.
2020
To commemorate the release of her second album i, Suzuki was set to hold the AIRI SUZUKI Special acoustic live Listen to "i"! from February 2 to March 15.[107][108] The March dates were later cancelled in consideration of a new policy established by the government to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, but were eventually rescheduled for September.
On February 12, she held the Suzuki Airi FC Event 2020 ~Minna no Ohanashi Kikasete! Watashi, Utaimasu!~ at Yamano Hall in celebration of Valentine's Day.
On March 1, Suzuki appeared as a model in the KANSAI COLLECTION 2020S/S held at Kyocera Dome Osaka.[109]
On March 26, it was announced that Suzuki's highly anticipated first solo concert at Yokohama Arena set for April 21, Suzuki Airi LIVE 2020 Airing the Bell @ YOKOHAMA ARENA,[110] was cancelled in consideration of a new policy established by the government to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.[111]
On April 5, it was announced that she and Suzuki Masayuki would sing the opening theme song for the second season of the TV anime adaptation of the manga Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai ~Tensai-tachi no Ren'ai Zunousen~. The song was officially released as a single by Suzuki Masayuki under the title "DADDY! DADDY! DO! feat. Suzuki Airi".[112]
On April 28, she digitally released her original song, "BABY! WE CAN DO IT!" through iTunes, Recochoku, and mora.[113] It was also announced that she was chosen as a model for Senden Kaigi, and she featured as a model in their April 30 issue, as well as in their web magazines on May 1.[114]
On May 29, she digitally released her original song, "Let The Show Begin". [115] Later, on August 1, she digitally released her original songs "Easy To Smile" and "Kimi ni Dake Hitomishiri (Home Demo ver.)".[116]
On August 10, she held the Suzuki Airi FC Event Dai 3kai Airi Mania Kai with two shows at Yamano Hall in celebration of her 26th birthday four months earlier.[117] In compliance with government policy, cheering, crowding, standing, and closeness in the venue were prohibited, and wearing masks were required to enter.
On September 23, she will release a mook titled iDIMPLE Suzuki Airi Produce Night & Day Tint Lip Base. It will contain a sample of the "Night & Day Tint Lip Base" product from her first-ever self-produced make-up brand, iDIMPLE.[118]
Personal Life
Her parents, Suzuki Toru and Kyoko, are both professional golfers.[119] She has a younger brother named Takayuki, who is also a golfer.
Suzuki also has six pet dogs: Uin, Kuria, Papi, Mary, Lucky and Lizy.
When Suzuki joined Hello! Project Kids, she was a second year elementary school student.[4]
On March 6, 2013, Suzuki graduated from high school[120] and began university on April 2.[121] She graduated from Keio University on March 23, 2017 with a degree in Environment and Information Studies.[122][123]Suzuki most notably gets along with the other ℃-ute members. Outside of Hello! Project, she is apparently good friends with Momota Kanako and they went to the same high school. She is also friends with Yamazaki Aoi, who went to the same university as her.[124]
Suzuki's was given the name Airi so she would be a girl loved (愛; ai) by everyone and full of reason (理; ri).[125]
