On March 11, the Sasaki family lost their home and fishery to the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami, forcing them to live in temporary housing.
Some time after the disaster, he heard about a local idol group called SCK45, and sent an application in for his daughter Rikako, hoping that it would cheer her up.
