Ongaku Gatas (音楽ガッタス; Music Cats) is a former Japanese pop girl group managed by UP-FRONT PROMOTION and formerly part of Hello! Project.

On June 19th, it was announced that a unit would be created from members of the Hello! Project futsal team, Gatas Brilhantes H.P. It was also announced they would release their debut CD in August, and that Konno Asami (who had graduated from Hello! Project in 2006) would return to join the group and football team. It was also announced that Noto Arisa, Mano Erina, Sengoku Minami, and Sawada Yuri from Hello Pro Egg would be part of the group.

The rest of the members were announced on July 12th, as well as the release date and title of the single. On July 15th, their debut song was sung live for the first time at .

At the start of August, the release date of the single was pushed back to September 12th.

They released their debut single on September 12th, folloowed by their second single on December 5th.

2008 Edit

On February 6th, 2008, they released their debut album, 1st GOODSAL, followed by their first tour. On the final date of the tour Mano graduated from Hello! Project Eggs and Ongaku Gatas to debut as a solo singwre within Hello! project.

On April 30th, Muto left Hello! Project in its entirety to return to life as a normal student and focus on her studies.


Shortly after their winter tour finished in early 2009, the group officially graduated from Hello! Project in March 2009 as part of the Elder Club, but remained together.

In August 2009, it was announced that Noto Arisa and Sawada Yuri would both be graduating from Hello Pro Egg. Sawada also graduated from both Hello! Project and Ongaku Gatas to focus on university. Noto would remain as a member of the group.

Afterwards, the group unofficially went on a year long hiatus.


In March 2010, Ongaku Gatas began their spring tour, playing a total of three venues (Osaka, Aichi prefecture and Tokyo). On March 31st, they left M-line club and their official site closed down.

  • The group's name combines the Japanese word ongaku (music) with the Portuguese word gatas, taken from the name of the Hello! Project futsal team, Gatas Brilhantes H.P. (which means Bright Female Cats). Together, the two words literally mean "musical cats" (gatas being the feminine form of the word gatos (cats)), although gatas is also slang for "pretty girls".
  • In December, 2013, Yoshizawa, Ishikawa, Satoda, Sengoku, and Mano performed Narihajimeta Koi no BELL at Hello! Project COUNTDOWN PARTY 2013 ~GOOD BYE & HELLO!~.
