Kanazawa Tomoko (金澤朋子) is a retired Japanese pop singer. She is a former idol under Hello! Project as a member and the leader of Juice=Juice.[1] She is also a former member of the SATOYAMA & SATOUMI movement unit ODATOMO. She first joined Hello! Project as a Hello Pro Kenshuusei member and was introduced at the Hello Pro Kenshuusei Happyoukai 2012 ~12gatsu no Nama Tamago Show!~.[2]

She graduated from Juice=Juice and Hello! Project on November 24, 2021.[3] A few months later, on May 31, 2022, she retired from the entertainment industry.[4]

Early Life[]

Kanazawa Tomoko was born on July 2, 1995 in Saitama, Japan.

2012[]

In the summer, Kanazawa entered a DAM★Tomo contest for Chou HAPPY SONG (Single ver.) and won. She, along with her sister Fumiko and another girl, performed "Chou HAPPY SONG" with BeriKyuu at the Hello! Project Tanjou 15 Shuunen Kinen Live 2012 Natsu ~Wkwk Natsu no FAN Matsuri!~ show on August 18 at Nakano Sunplaza as the opening act.[5] Afterwards, Kanazawa auditioned for Ocean Music Award Shinjin Hakkutsu Audition 2012.[6] She sang ℃-ute's "Kimi wa Jitensha Watashi wa Densha de Kitaku." She made it to the final round, but eventually lost.[7] Following this audition, she was asked if she'd like to join Hello Pro Kenshuusei.

On November 20, it was announced that six new girls would be added to Hello Pro Kenshuusei.[6] Kanazawa was officially introduced at the Hello Pro Kenshuusei Happyoukai 2012 ~12gatsu no Nama Tamago Show!~ alongside Kaga Kaede, Wada Sakurako, Kishimoto Yumeno, Ichioka Reina, and Makino Maria on December 9.[2]

2013[]

In January, Kanazawa began her Kenshuusei duties; she performed in the Hello! Project Viva! and Bravo! concerts.

On February 3, during the Bravo! concert in Fukuoka, it was announced that Kanazawa would debut in a new unit, Juice=Juice, alongside Miyamoto Karin, Miyazaki Yuka, Takagi Sayuki, Otsuka Aina, and Uemura Akari.[8] Tsunku's comments regarding Kanazawa:

"One of the members of a group that took part in Berryz Kobo×℃-ute "Chou HAPPY SONG (Single ver.)" karaoke contest with DAM★Tomo. She stood out there with her smiles and singing and then she joined Hello Pro Kenshuusei. She has just joined so she's the designated star rookie."[9]

On March 5th, there was a fanclub event held for Kanazawa and Kishimoto Yumeno.

On June 13, Kanazawa appeared on Bayfm's ON8 radio show with Uemura Akari. This appearance was their first time appearing on the radio. The same day, it was announced that Kanazawa would be Juice=Juice's subleader.[1]

In November, Kanazawa and the other Juice=Juice members profiles were removed from the Hello Pro Kenshuusei website. In late November, Kanazawa blogged saying that she sprained her ankle.

2014[]

On March 13, it was announced that Kanazawa would be a member of a newly formed SATOYAMA movement unit called ODATOMO.

On May 2, her first e-Hello! DVD, Greeting ~Kanazawa Tomoko~ was announced, it is set to be released in late June.

On July 2, Kanazawa celebrated her 19th birthday. The special event was called Juice=Juice Kanazawa Tomoko Birthday Event 2014, the event featured two performances in Tokyo at Tokyo FM Hall.

2015[]

On March 26, it was announced Kanazawa would become the new assistant on the radio show BAKUNAI, replacing Natsuyaki Miyabi.[10] She made her first appearance on April 3.

On July 2, Kanazawa celebrated her 20th birthday. The special event was called Juice=Juice Kanazawa Tomoko Birthday Event 2015, the event featured two performances in Tokyo at Tokyo FM Hall.

2016[]

On January 25, Kanazawa announced that she was diagnosed with endometriosis. Her medication had been giving her sudden headaches, dizziness, and nausea, making her unable to participate in recent concerts and events. However, Kanazawa would continue activities while ongoing consultation with her doctor.[11][12]

On July 4, Kanazawa celebrated her 21st birthday at a special event titled Juice=Juice Kanazawa Tomoko Birthday Event 2016. The event featured two performances in Kanagawa at CLUB CITTA.

On August 5, Kanazawa was appointed as the assistant ambassador of Miyoshi in Saitama Prefecture.[13] She would assist Yoshizawa Hitomi, who is Miyoshi's public relations ambassador.

2017[]

On March 15, it was announced that Kanazawa had joined the new unit Kamiishinaka Kana alongside Nakajima Saki, Ishida Ayumi, and Kamikokuryo Moe.[14]

On July 2, Kanazawa celebrated her 22nd birthday at a fanclub event titled Juice=Juice Kanazawa Tomoko Birthday Event 2017. The event featured three performances at Tokyo Sogo Beauty School.

On July 14, Kanazawa released a digital song with Iikubo Haruna titled "Obaka Neko to Obaka Neko Baka no Uta".

2018[]

On February 5, Kanazawa, who has being acting as an assistant ambassador of Miyoshi since August 2016, was officially appointed as a public relations ambassador.[15][16]

On July 2, Kanazawa released her first solo photobook tomorrow. Then that evening, she celebrated her 23rd birthday at a fanclub event titled Juice=Juice Kanazawa Tomoko Birthday Event 2018 at Yamano Hall.

On September 23, she was appointed with eight other OG and active Hello! Project members from Saitama Prefecture as Host City Special Supporters for Kumagaya during the Rugby World Cup 2019 hosted by Japan.[17][18]

2019[]

On April 27, the Fami Hello! PHOTOBOOK② was released, which includes Kanazawa's gravure that was originally published in a May 2017 issue of Weekly Famitsu.[19]

On June 12, in episode #293 of Hello! Project Station, it was announced that Kanazawa would become the new leader of Juice=Juice following Miyazaki Yuka's graduation on June 17.[20][21]

On June 13, she opened an official Instagram account.[22][23]

On July 2, Kanazawa celebrated her 24th birthday at a fanclub event titled Juice=Juice Kanazawa Tomoko Birthday Event 2019, which featured two shows at Yamano Hall.

On August 16, she played in the eSports Dai Sankai Star Battle Championship as a member of Team JOY.[24]

On September 23, she announced that her own radio show, titled Kanazawa Tomoko no Vivid Midnight, would begin airing on October 5 on NACK5. Also, a different BEYOOOOONDS member would join her each week.[25][26]

On October 22, Kanazawa held a solo PR event in Miyoshi, titled Juice=Juice Kanazawa Tomoko Talk & Mini Live in Miyoshi-machi ~LOVE Miyoshi~, at Coppice Miyoshi (Miyoshi Town Culture Center).[27][28] A solo photobook, titled #Ii ne Miyoshi-machi, was first released at the event.[29]

2020[]

From January 27 to February 19, Kanazawa held her first solo live tour, the Kanazawa Tomoko LIVE 2020 ~Rose Quartz~, that spanned twelve performances in total at COTTON CLUB.[30] One of the new solo songs she performed, "Kiiroi Sen no Uchigawa de Narande Omachi Kudasai", was digitally released through iTunes on January 28 and Recochoku and mora on February 5.[31]

On July 21, Kanazawa Tomoko celebrated her 25th birthday at a fanclub event titled Juice=Juice Kanazawa Tomoko Birthday Event 2020, which featured two shows at COTTON CLUB.[32] In compliance with government policy, cheering, crowding, standing, and closeness in the venue were prohibited, and wearing masks were required to enter.

2021[]

On July 5, Kanazawa Tomoko celebrated her 26th birthday at a fanclub event titled Juice=Juice Kanazawa Tomoko Birthday Event 2021 ~Phantom~, which featured two shows at Citizen Hall Omiya.[33] In compliance with government policy, cheering, crowding, standing, and closeness in the venue were prohibited, and wearing masks were required to enter.

On September 15, it was announced that Kanazawa will be temporarily suspending all activities. Kanazawa was feeling unwell since the past week prior to the announcement, and after a visit to a doctor it was revealed it was due to her endometriosis, which she already had been taking medical treatment for. As her period of rest is currently planned for around three weeks, she will be absent from the "team Tsuki" concerts of the Hello! Project 2021 Aki "Zoku Kachou Fuugetsu" tour from September 23 to October 3.[34]

On October 6, Kanazawa announced that she will be graduating from Juice=Juice and Hello! Project on November 24 at the Juice=Juice Concert 2021 ~FAMILIA~ in Yokohama Arena. She shared that her physical condition is still unstable due to the symptoms of her endometriosis, and she wants to concentrate in the treatment, which led to her decision to graduate. Although she originally did not intended to graduate at this timing, Kanazawa wanted to graduate from the group at the upcoming concert at Yokohama Arena and following an improvement of her health, the agency respected her decision and the concert, which was already announced, will be her graduation concert. In consideration of her health condition and to preserve her for the graduation concert, she will be absent from the Hello! Project 2021 Aki "Zoku Kachou Fuugetsu" tour as a whole, while other activities will be decided while looking her health condition. In addition, a new Juice=Juice single is set to be released in December, which will be Kanazawa's last single. After her graduation, she is thinking of continuing her activities as a soloist, but she can not make a concrete decision at the moment so she will decide after her symptoms calm down.[3]

On November 21, her radio show Kanazawa Tomoko no Vivid Midnight had its last broadcast on NACK5.[35]

On November 24, Kanazawa graduated from Juice=Juice and Hello! Project at the Juice=Juice Concert 2021 ~FAMILIA~ Kanazawa Tomoko Final in Yokohama Arena. In the next day, she released her solo song "Anata wo Omou Kaerimichi" digitally.

2022[]

On May 17, Kanazawa announced that she would be ending her exclusive management contract with UP-FRONT PROMOTION by the end of May and would retire from the entertainment industry. Kanazawa was preparing to begin solo activities following her graduation from Juice=Juice, but she deeply rethought about her future while being worried about her medical condition and she reconsidered her future. As result, she came to the conclusion of retiring from the entertainment industry.[4][36]

Personal Life[]

Kanazawa's father, Shuhei, is 53 years old (as of April 2021) and works as a taxi driver. She has 4 siblings: her brother older by 3 years, Kazuyuki, who works in a paint shop; her sister younger by 2 years, Fumiko, who also entered a DAM★Tomo contest for "Chou HAPPY SONG (Single ver.)" and won, and twin sisters younger by 4 years.

She had a pet cat named Nekotaro a.k.a. Nuntun, who passed away in December 2017.[37] She also had a hamster named Nivea.[38] In July 2018, she adopted a pet kitten and named her Sui.[39]

During her junior high school years, she took archery. When Kanazawa debuted as a member of Juice=Juice in February 2013, she was a second year high school student. As of April 2014, she had graduated from high school.

Kanazawa's given name, Tomoko, was taken from actress Nakajima Tomoko.[40]

  • Rose Quartz (ローズクォーツ): Kanazawa has a line in "Iijiwaru Shinai de Dakishimete yo" where she sings “Watashi wa Rose Quartz”, which literally means “I’m a rose quartz.” Rose quartz is a type of pink gem stone that symbolizes beauty, love, etc., so fans started associating her with that name.
  • kntm: An acronym for Kanatomo, an abbreviation for Kanazawa Tomoko.
  • Tomo-chan (ともちゃん): Used by her classmates.
  • Tomo (とも/朋): Used by Miyazaki Yuka.

    • She was in Hello Pro Kenshuusei a little less than three months before being placed in a group.
    • If she could join another group for a day, she would join Country Girls.
    • She is the only Juice=Juice member that didn't audition for Morning Musume or S/mileage, and is also the only member in her Hello Pro Kenshuusei generation who didn't audition for Morning Musume.
    • She is a fan of the idol group Fairies and attended their Sukkiri event in 2011. She is also close friends with Fairies member Hayashida Mahiro.
