  • Hey again Vittoria. Since you're around here, I thought I'd ask for a little bit of specific help. Short background: English is the only language I know well, but I've still done a lot of editing at the wikis of different languages, mostly the single/album pages. I've done this with a system where I fill in a pretty basic version of the page, and then the language-specific words get replaced to something appropriate. Single gets replaced by Singl or Singolo, things like that. The result being nearly identical pages across different languages. I mostly set it up by looking at examples of other sites in those languages plus Google Translate, but would then have one of our bilingual editors check things over to make corrections.

Some months ago I expanded a bit, and set up international versions of the infobox used on member pages. So again it becomes easier to make something very nearly the same across different languages. However, by the time I did this, the person I previously asked for advice on Italian was no longer around. Would you be willing to step in? Mostly this would involve taking a look at the list of short phrases I've ended up with as replacements for the English version. Here is where we discussed the French version, for example.

    • OK, I've made the changes you suggested. Now to check on some of the categories and other stuff the infobox makes based on input.

For giving a length of time, is the format like "4 anni, 10 mesi, 28 giorni" appropriate?

For the equivalent of English "1997 Births" category I've currently got "Nati nel 1997". In English it's then categorized under "Births by Year". In Italian that might be "Nati per anno"?

Similarly the equivalent of English "June Births" is currently "Nati nel giugno". In English it's then categorized under "Births by month". In Italian, "Nati per mese"?

For English "Members from Osaka", I've got Italian "Membri di Osaka". In English it goes under "Members by prefecture". In Italian, "Membri per prefettura"?

In English we've got "Blood Type A" category. In Italian, "Gruppo sanguigno A". In English it goes under "Blood Types" category. In Italian, "Gruppi sanguigni"?

    • In Italy, we usually say the day first, then the month and then the year. All the rest is fine except for June Births = Nati in giugno and Members from Osaka = Membri da Osaka

    • When it comes to dates I list in the order you say (4 giugno 1997), but is it the same when it's lengths of time? 28 giorni, 10 mesi, 4 anni?

        Editor in caricamento
    • No, in lenghts of time we use the same "method" you use.

    • OK, I think I've covered everything I had ready to bring up, grazie! Feel free to mention if you see anything else awkward that looks like it was my doing.

    • Prego! I will!
